Opticians OWN Brand Lenses

`Own Brand` contact lenses are an attempt by the large high street chains of Opticians, mainly in the UK, to limit your choice of contact lenses and lock you into their supply system.

Specsavers, Dolland & Aitchison, Boots Opticians, Vision Express and Clulows all commonly buy lenses from contact lens manufacturers (Cibavision, Bausch & Lomb, Coopervision etc) and repackage them.

As a result the high street opticians often do not offer the best value for money.

In the past this would lock you into your high street optician, as it was very difficult to find out which lens you were really on. There are price savings on the internet of up to 70% on high street prices - but the customer could not benefit from this, as they could not work out which contact lens to order.

It also suited the high street opticians to tie you into a direct debit, but this might not have suited you.

The internet now makes it easy to find out which lens you are on and to order them as and when you want at discount prices.
